Top Five Essential Travel Items to Start 2020 Off Right

I’m not afraid to admit I’m a big apple fanboy. And a fan of music. And podcasts. And Youtube videos. The list goes on... Personally, there’s no better way to consume sound during travel just because of the overall versatility: Convenience, wireless, fast charge, noise-cancellation, great phone calls, usb-c compatible, hands-free shortcuts, etc.

Airpods are so convenient and now with the Airpod pros, interfering baby cries and loud airplane noises are of the past due to the noise-cancelling mode. The charging case carries over 24 hrs of use before needing a charge so you really don’t have to worry about the battery dying on the road. Charging Airpods from 0 to 100% takes around 30 mins to an hour depending on the model.

Some of us are very sensitive sleepers and hate the sounds of dumpster trucks or birds chirping at 7am. In a foreign country, these noises are somehow always worse. These macks I use on the regular regardless of travel and surprisingly block up to 100db. They conform specifically to your ear so you don’t have to worry about fit.

This is my go-to physical sunscreen that I’ve been using since 2017. Fun fact there’s two main types of sunscreens, physical and chemical. The difference is that a physical sunscreen sits on top of the skin (sometimes can look very pasty) while a chemical sunscreen permeates the skin. This would be all fine and dandy if those chemicals were all natural with no negative effects.

Over recent years, studies have shown that some of these chemicals found in many chemical sunscreens can cause adverse health issues. Chemicals such as Oxybenzone and Avobenzone are hazardous eye irritants and have been shown to increase free radicals in the skin. Take a look at your own sunscreen and see if they contain these ingredients. I buy the 5 oz that can be taken on the plane, and then refill the bottle with the bigger size (more bang for your buck this way).

As a (attempting) health conscious individual, even my gum has to be thoroughly researched. I go for gum that’s sugarless and more recently, aspartame-free. Sugarless because well, everyone and their mother hates sugar these days. And well, Aspartame has been linked to cancer, seizures, stroke, and more (studies found here). And just a bonus, Pur is harvested organically from Manilkara trees and manufactured in Switzerland.

Traveling more and more, I still prefer to cram everything into a personal item when I can. It usually suffices for trips less than six days. However, for longer trips when I can’t fit everything in a backpack, the carry-on is the next step. The main benefit of a carry-on is that you don’t have to deal with baggage claim. Not having to wait in baggage claim is a huge time saver, not to mention saving your bag from rough handling (#stopbagabuse). While I can’t say I’ve tried that many carry-on’s yet, the Titan Xenon has been my favorite by far.
