What I learned After 1000 Minutes of Meditation

Updated: Mar 18, 2020

It’s been a total of 75 days straight. Certain days had multiple sessions, too.

In the beginning, I used to meditate as the first thing to do the next morning. Well, first I drink water.

Meditating when you haven’t experienced anything throughout the day to think, decide, stress or feel about could be a great way to process the rest of the day.

The interesting thing is really it’s strengthening of your own ability to become aware. This concept like anything else takes practice. More importantly, meditation is about becoming present in the now.

Meditation Misconceptions

Some people may think this means trying to remove thoughts from their head. This isn’t always the case. Much of the time it’s about processing the present moment even with thoughts in the head, but not necessarily attaching on to those thoughts. Remaining focused with the breathe at that moment. Sometimes a thought appears, but before you know it, you’re back to the breath instinctively.

Yes, yes, some days are harder than others. But, if you get the fundamentals of meditation, you can apply these principles to your life outside of mediation.

Initial Thoughts

At first, I began to notice my breathing throughout the day compared to my sessions of mediation. This got me to think about how most of my day, my breathing happened to change frequently based on my environment or how I felt.

Recently, however, I have begun to develop a sense of the present moment correlating to awareness and the breath. For example, wherever I travel, whatever I experience (happiness, stress, sadness) I take my breathe with me wherever I go. Even in stressful environments, I can remain present with the breathe and give my mind and body the proper amount of oxygen to process my experience.

You can meditate while running; all you have to do is focus on the breath; let the thoughts flow, but without stopping to ponder. Maybe try meditating while working. Be present with the breath. It’s hard to explain what it feels like when the mind experiences freedom from past or future thoughts and just focuses on the present.
